If may be cold and the holidays may be over, but you can still have fun and feel the excitement around town. If you live in an apartment in Glen Allen, VA there are quite a few fun things to do around the Richmond area this weekend. Here are a few ideas:
Israeli Film Festival - Today, Saturday and Sunday
Sure, Richmond is all about the French Film Festival, but isn’t it time we learned more about Israeli film? The subject matter couldn’t be more timely and these films are winning awards at festivals from Toronto to Cannes. Four films will be screened at the Weinstein JCC, and several screenings will include an interactive component, such as a street art demo before the first film on Thursday, “The Wonders,” and a discussion with the prominent researcher of “Bethlehem” on Saturday. Other films include “Hunting Elephants” and “Magic Men.”
Corey Harris - Friday
Corey Harris has written for such performers as Billy Bragg and Wilco, but after being named a MacArthur Fellow in 2007 he’s been firing up his own blues career. He plays Richmond’s Capital Ale House this Friday, drawing heavily from his 2013 album, “Fulton Blues.”
First Fridays art walk - Friday
Richmond art galleries light up with art openings and events, held one week later this month due to the holiday. A few standouts on our list include internationally acclaimed photographer Cristina De Middel’s show “Five Stories” at Candela Books, “Super / Natural” at 1708 Gallery and “Size Doesn’t Matter: Small Works Invitational” at glave kocen gallery.
Snow Days Festival - Saturday
There might not be any snow on the ground (yet!), but you can still celebrate the winter season at the Children’s Museum of Richmond-Central’s Snow Days Festival. Join Elsa and Anna for the coronation of the Snow Queen. Meet Virginia Repertory Theater’s Snow Bear, check out the Richmond Symphony’s instrument petting zoo, enjoy winter-themed art projects and snow cones.
Wilton House Family Day - Saturday
Need a new hang-out spot for the whole family? Shake off the winter blues with Family Day at Wilton House Museum. Enjoy a house tour that focuses on its current exhibit, “Anywhere But Now,” which features an installation of contemporary art. Plus lots of family activities.
